Arlington, Va. – While U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro delivers his speech at the 2022 Naval Submarine League Annual Symposium on Wednesday, a large “sheep” and a flock of PETA supporters will be outside ratcheting up demands for the U.S. Navy to end its agonizing decompression and oxygen toxicity experiments on sheep and other animals. The group notes there are many animal-free, human-relevant methods that could replace these wasteful tests, which the British and French navies have already abandoned.

When:    Wednesday, November 2, 6:30 p.m.

Where:    Hyatt Regency Crystal City, 2799 Jefferson Davis Hwy. (near the intersection with S. Clark Street), Arlington

“Sheep are trusting animals, yet the U.S. Navy is squeezing them to death on the taxpayers’ dime in barbaric deep-dive tests,” says PETA Vice President Shalin Gala. “PETA urges Secretary Del Toro to embrace humane research and stop lagging behind our allies in banning this cruelty.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
