Birmingham, Ala. – “All mothers love their babies.” That’s the can’t-miss plea for mercy from PETA LAMBS (“Least Among My Brothers and Sisters” from Matthew 25:40), the organization’s faith outreach division, that just went up near 11 local churches in the country’s second-most Bible-minded city, urging everyone to see cows and other animals as gentle individuals who value their families. The sky-high message is in town for Christmas as a reminder that the only peaceful holiday feast is a vegan one.

“Christmas is the season of goodwill, and with the abundance of festive meat- and dairy-free foods available on grocery store shelves, it’s easy for everyone to extend the compassion of Christ to vulnerable mother cows and their babies,” says PETA Foundation Faith Outreach and Engagement Campaign Coordinator Candice Kelsey. “PETA LAMBS is encouraging everyone to celebrate the holidays with delicious, easy-to-make, vegan recipes that show mercy to all God’s creation.”

Animals are not mentioned in Genesis 1:29, which states that God provides “every seed-bearing plant” and “every tree whose fruit contains seed” as food for humans. In the meat industry, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds or stuffed into wire cages or metal crates and deprived of everything that’s natural and important to them, including raising their young. Cows used for dairy are forcibly inseminated (raped)—workers insert an arm into the cow’s rectum and a metal rod to deliver semen into her vagina—and their beloved calves are torn away from them so that the milk meant to nourish their babies can be used by humans. Once their bodies wear out after repeated pregnancies, they’re sent to slaughter.

PETA LAMBS’ appeal can be found at the intersection of Morris Avenue and 25th Street N., next to Carrigan’s Public House.

PETA LAMBS opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. Its motto, a variation of PETA’s, is “Animals are not ours. They’re God’s.” For more information, please visit PETALambs.com or follow PETA on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
