Reno, Nev. – Just down the road from a local Panda Express restaurant, PETA has erected a sky-high message showing two grateful chickens encouraging everyone to opt for the chain’s tangy and delicious vegan Beyond the Original Orange Chicken dish, which Panda Express is offering for a limited time nationwide due to popular demand.
“The vegan orange chicken at Panda Express is a sweet and spicy meal that allows gentle birds to live in peace,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is encouraging everyone to give a cluck and tuck into tasty, vegan versions of their favorite meals.”
Birds killed for their flesh are confined by the tens of thousands to severely crowded, filthy sheds and bred to grow such unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs often become crippled under the weight. They’re trucked through all weather extremes, sometimes over hundreds of miles and without any food or water, to slaughterhouses, where their throats are slit—often while they’re still conscious.
In addition to sparing animals daily suffering, each person who goes vegan shrinks their carbon footprint and their risk of suffering from health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, strokes, obesity, and cancer.
