San Antonio – Armed with signs proclaiming, “‘Rescued’ Dolphins Sexually Abused, Exploited, Shipped to Abu Dhabi,” PETA supporters will rally outside SeaWorld on Sunday to alert would-be parkgoers that the company just sent 24 dolphins—including three dolphins from SeaWorld San Antonio—to its new abusement park in the United Arab Emirates. The dolphins who were shipped include Alice, who was “rescued” in 2007, imprisoned at SeaWorld San Antonio, and forcibly bred in the company’s dolphin-breeding program, in which staff pull female dolphins out of the water—sometimes after drugging them so that they can’t fight back—and shove tubes filled with semen into their uteruses. Alice gave birth to two calves via this forced insemination.

When:    Sunday, December 11, 12:30 p.m.

Where:    Intersection of SeaWorld and N. Ellison drives, San Antonio

“Instead of shipping dolphins around the world to be put on display at a theme park, SeaWorld should be sending dolphins to a seaside sanctuary,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges the public to stay away from SeaWorld and its abusement parks, whether they’re in the U.S. or the U.A.E.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
