Dallas – PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man caught on camera abandoning a young male German shepherd on Dowdy Ferry Road near the intersection with Teagarden Road on Wednesday evening.

Video footage from The Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission—which installed cameras in the area to combat frequent animal dumping—shows an older model white Chevrolet SUV pulling over at around 6:45 p.m. A light-skinned, dark-haired man got out of the car and unloaded the dog, who has golden fur and a dark-brown back and muzzle—and then got back into the car and drove off. The dog chased after the vehicle, narrowly avoiding being hit by passing cars.

Neighbors who rescued the dog reported that the light-blue collar he was wearing was so tight that it was barely visible—but other than a minor injury on his leg, he is in good health. Police are now searching for the man who abandoned him but don’t yet have any leads, so PETA is asking for the public’s help. Would you please share this information with your audience?

“Our dogs rely on us to protect them, but instead, this man dumped this dog on the side of the road, leaving him to chase after the car—and likely the only family he’s ever known,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “This is an egregious betrayal of a dog’s trust, and PETA urges anyone who recognizes this dog or the man who abandoned him to come forward immediately.”

Tipsters should contact the Dallas Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Team at 469-504-3394.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit, listen to The PETA Podcast, or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
