Spay-a-Thons: Making Great Change in Peru

It’s time to celebrate! More than 100 dogs and cats were recently sterilized in Peru, thanks to a committed group of animal advocates in Lima supported by PETA’s Global Compassion Fund.

They’ve been operating volunteer-run clinics serving low-income neighborhoods since 2014. It’s an enormous task, but their team has already made huge inroads, spaying or neutering 1,300 animals to date. More low-cost/free clinics are coming up soon.

In communities across Peru that the clinic has served, paying out of pocket for these surgeries can be out of reach. Thanks to Global Compassion Fund support, however, these clinics are free of charge or low cost, allowing services to reach as many housed and homeless animals as possible.

Not only do these clinics provide the respect and high standards of care that everyone deserves, volunteers also share educational materials and talk to clients about animal rights issues. The more clients know, the better equipped they are to care for their animals.

Going the extra mile to help dogs and cats, the team also sets up tables at adoption events to promote the clinics, in addition to working with other organizations that assist animals in the country.
