Denver – The founders of locally based Pillow-Fight (formerly known as GoodPillow) should have sweet dreams tonight knowing that a Compassionate Business Award is on the way from PETA—along with some delicious bird-shaped vegan chocolates—in recognition of the company’s use of animal-friendly, feather- and down-free materials in its pillows and bedding.

“Buyers can rest easy knowing that Pillow-Fight isn’t ripping out terrified birds’ feathers by the fistful for its luxurious, cruelty-free synthetic down pillows,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges everyone to stick to vegan bedding and let ducks and geese keep their feathers.”

PETA exposés have repeatedly shown workers painfully live-plucking ducks and geese for down, leaving them with bloody, gaping wounds, including on farms connected to purportedly “responsible” companies. A recent PETA Asia investigation into a Vietnamese down supplier revealed that ducks’ throats were slit while they were still conscious and that the birds were seen moving for at least one minute afterward.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
